An Amber heat health alert has been issued for our region. This is forecast to occur between 9am Tuesday 11 August and 9pm Friday 14 August.
An amber alert means significant impacts across the health and social care sector are likely due to high temperatures, including:
- indoor temperatures in care settings (hospitals and care homes) exceeding the recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment
- indoor environments overheating, increasing the risk to vulnerable people living in the community and care settings
- issues managing medicines
- health risks, particularly for those over 65 or with health conditions
- likely increased demand on health and social care services
- staffing issues due to external factors, such as transport
- increased demand for power exceeding capacity
- heat affecting workforce to deliver services.
